Sound Bath
A downloadable game for Windows
Recently I visited a famous California desert spot, the Integratron.
As the story goes, this guy was visited by aliens from the planet Venus, who gave him instructions on how to build some kind of life-extension device, which he started building in the desert near Joshua Tree. He became a bit of a celebrity in the UFO world, but died before he could finish the device, and now they do "sound baths" there (booked far out in advance!).
I attended one of these, and as I was laying there listening to these quartz bowls, in this giant dome with wacky acoustics, it struck me that it would be fun to make a little simulation of the experience. Hopefully it'll straighten out your chakras a little bit (if that's what they need).
The neat thing about the bowls is they have two sets of the same pitches, one set tuned to A=440hz and the other tuned to A=432hz. When they play both, your brain hears the differential frequency, this "beating" effect. This was kind of the crux of the performance. Here, you click on a button to play a bowl—the ones next to each other (vertically) are the same pitch, but the top row and bottom row have different tunings.
So—play two buttons in the same column to hear the beating effect.
You can switch to a bunch of different tunings, have them tuned to just intonation, switch between four different acoustic space simulations, and change some visual parameters (audio-reactive snow!). Press "escape" to pause, and change graphical settings or quit.
Todo for the future: auto-perform mode (reduce strain on those carpal-tunnel chakras)

hello! is it possible to play on itch via apple or is it only via windows?
Hello! Right now I've only made a windows build, but I plan to make a mac build as well, hopefully soon!
Thank you! It seems like such an awesome program. Congrats :)
The serene atmosphere of the entire game and the undulating sound of the sound Bath were mysterious and very relaxing.
I am looking forward to the auto mode, meow~!
